Cataloguing Rationale and Terms

The images have been catalogued according to the standards set by the VRA Core 3.0 using the Getty Vocabulary Databases. Dates and titles were derived in consultation with Participating Scholars and from sources listed in the bibliography. The titles of works and features have generally been translated into English.Variant titles will not appear when records are retrieved, but are accounted for when searches are done. For a list of the villas included in the database, click here.

The most effective field to search the database is the keyword field, which will search all of the most important fields. The Object Types and Subject Terms listed below will assist you in performing your searches.

The most effective way to search for a specific villa is to select Search, then select Subjects, and then type the name of the villa as it appears in the Villa Names list below, e.g., Villa Lante.

You may also browse the collection by Site Name, Location, and Work Type.
